Many More Tomorrows: Mental Wellness Month—September 2019

September is International Suicide Prevention Month. To support our community, Supporting Action for Mental Health has organized a month-long series of events and discussions about creating mental wellness.

Suicide has become a health epidemic.

· 1,175 people died by suicide in Colorado in 2017.

· It is the leading cause of death among our youth (age 10 – 24).

· It is most common among people aged 45-64 years old.

· Men are 3 times more likely than women to die by suicide.

· Colorado has been in the top ten states for suicide for the last 10 years

The events aim to increase mental health literacy, decrease stigma, increase mental wellness, and help residents start the conversation about mental health. Many people do not seek help because of stigma.

The activities aim to help residents recognize the tools they already have and fill up their toolbox with new tools to address a mental health challenge for themselves, a loved one or the community as a whole.
